As you can see, it started out simple enough... It was a great workhorse of a gun, but accuracy and repeatability suffered. Not too many aftermarket accessories are available for the Large-Frame Taurus revolvers, so a call to Craiguns in Manhattan Beach, CA was in order.

Upon receipt of my gun, he found the cylinder was not square to the barrel... The Bullet would leave the chamber and hit the right side of the bore at about a 5 degree angle. Straightening the crane cured this anomaly, but accuracy was still approximately 4 inches at 50 yards from a bench rest. Probably good enough for some, but not for Craig or Myself! Craig re-cut the throat of the barrel and re-set the barrel to cylinder clearance to approximately .007". This brought the 6 shot spread down to approximately 1/2" at 50 yards!

He then added a B-Square model 12305/6 scope mount and a Leupold 35833 M8-2x20mm scope. This was a great aid for freehand shooting, as most people don't have bench rests! The decision was also made that the factory "santoprene®" grips were not quite what the doctor ordered. A section of Tulipwood was purchased from the local hardwood shop and Craig proceeded to carve a set of grips by hand. These were much larger and more comfortable than the factory grips.

This target is approximately 6 inches across... The bullseye is 1 1/2 inches. These rounds were fired freehand at 50 yards!
